My daughter has been having hip pain since last August after running cross country. She has had an MRI which shcowed possible effusion and also consider avascular necrosis. She saw an orthopedic wsurgeon who injected the hip joint and tried to aspirate under flouroscopy. Work up for rheumatoid arthritis and a bone scan was negative. She did 6 weeks of physical therapy and was released with exercies and release to play softball as tolerated. Pain had not gotten any better so physician sent her back to PT. There is a pea sized nodule on the top portion of the hip and it has point tenderness. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

There are some additional information that would be helpful:
1. How old is your daughter?
2. where exactly is the pain?
3. did it ever disappear with PT intervention?
4. Have they taken anymore scans to see if the necrosis/effusion was still there?
5. What PT intervention did she have, and has she continued with the exercises?
6. The pea size nodule is on the top of the hips... ??trachanteric bursitis??
