I am recent graduate of a Master's program. I am working at a level one trauma center treating patients suffering from severe head injury. I could greatly appreciate help with coma level stim.

Hi Katie,
Although I haven't treated this population in a while I was the Clinical Manager of a TBI unit for many years. What exactly are you looking for? I can offer you some ideas if you would like be more specific. Basically in the acute phase you are monitoring for changes in arousal and attention and tracking any responses the patient may have to the environment, i.e. pain, sensation, visual tracking, response to auditory stim, abnormal reflexes, postural responses ...We always worked very closely across disciplines to track changes in any behaviors to indicate whether the patient was coming out of coma, processing any type of information. When the patient moves on to an LTACH or rehab program it is helpful to have this information. We worked with many patients that were in questionable persistent vegetative state and structured data collection is a necessary team process. You also would want to work on positioning/monitoring of changes in tone during this time of course.
