To make a long story short my family picked up cryptosporidium from a local private swimming club (it is a parasite that causes both ends to erupt for up to a month - sounds wonderful I know). Anyway a college friend of my wife's (currently studying to be a homeopath) told us to see a chiropractor as she knows one that treats these parasites through manipulation and an "electric type scan of the body". Complete malarky as far as I am concerned - prove me wrong chiros by showing me some evidence. As an aside also had a patient yesterday whose relative has muscular dystrophy. They see a chiroprator that is "trying to heal them". Prove me wrong again. Claims keeping getting crazier by the second.

Of course this is absolute and total nonsense. Parasitology is a well learned field as parasites have plagued humankind for thousands of years, that being said, the proof is in the pudding for the treatment of parasites...medication. Ask any missionary or doctor for "Physicians without Boundries", there are simple medications that are often times very inexpensive.

How can any chiro prove you wrong, the notion that spinal manipulation can treat parasites or muscular dystrophy is absurd. Really, most chiros would think those claims were outlandish and indefensible. I bet this guy/gal is using one of those Rife machines, if I were to guess. DC

Orthotherapist, If a Chiropractor is claiming to be able to heal what you have listed his/her license to practice should be pulled and there should be some jail time. It is absolutely ridiculous for someone to be claiming that manipulation will heal either of those ailments. That being said, both of the episodes that you related came second hand from someone who states what the Chiropractor is claiming to do...I am not excusing the Chiropractor's behavior if he/she is in fact claiming the above, but we all know what patients tell us is not always the fact. For all you know, the Chiropractor may just be treating the person muscular dsytrophy in order to just improve quality of life. Once again, if the Chiropractor is actually claiming what you state then he/she is a nutbag, but I always take what a patient says about another doctor or therapist's treatment plan with a grain of salt. I can't count how many times what they described and what was actually being done were about 180 degrees apart...I have a feeling that all of you out there know what I am talking about

IMO- It is impossible to "prove" ANYTHING based on third hand heresay(DC alledgedly tells patient-- patient tells friend--friend tells physio).

I really dont think most DC's act or practice this way, most DCs stick to musculoskeletal practice. Homeopaths and Naturopaths...well... I think one would be hard pressed to find a DC to support those claims.

I agree with everything that has been said - I know that things can get twisted and patients hear what they want to hear. Was not a personal insult against chiros. Just one of those days where I had heard enough false claims and being sleep/nutrition deprived myself I had had enough.

No insult taken...that being said, if someone was insulted I have a wonderful manipulative technique that has been proven to rid you of any pain from being insulted. All it will take is for you to sign up for at least 60 visits and you will never be hurt by an insult again in your life
