The case report on the prototype unloading apparatus is now linked to the Rehabedge newsletter for those of you who are interested. We have only had the device for about 5 weeks now and about every few days we find new applications--especially in the SICU, NICU, MICU, and burn unit. Again, there have been no controlled studies but they are in the future. We start soon on patients with total knee replacements. Then, who knows--probably patients in the ICU setting if we can set up a good control group. I am also eager to start with controlled studies in early neurological rehabilitation and motor control of the lower extremities--again the control group and assessment tools will be difficult to establish, but I think it can be done. Multi-centered studies will show better validity/reliability so if you are interested, please let me know. We will probably start making a few more for controlled studies in the months to come. If the outcomes are favorable and if there is a need for the device, we may continue to pursue its developement. Until then, research will continue to be the focus. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
