Is it legal for PTA to supervise a PT Aide without PT onsite?

In CA only a PT can supervise an aide and the supervision must be immediate and direct. See the website www.ptb.ca.gov for some specifics.

The real question is.... can you bill for physical therapy services provided by an aide? Hmmm....

Just a heads up warning... aides are in no way, shape or form allowed to perform services to Medicare patients in an outpatient setting billed under Medicare B. Something to think about.... reference the CMS website....

Hi Tomas,

If I'm not mistaken in WI, only PT's can delegate billed PT services to others. Presumably, if there is no PT on site, the task was delegated by the PTA. This is found in our practice act and so you would need to check your own practice act to figure out what is allowed.

SJ's comments stand regardless of what your practice act states. The law usually uses the stricter interpretation of two competing rules from my understanding.
