Just wanted to get a feel for people's thoughts on neural mobilization. I practice primarily in an inpatient adult rehab facility treating stroke patients. In Pat Davies new edition of "Steps to Follow", she adds a new chapter on Neural mobilzation, citing Butler. She has pictures of a stroke patient's high-tone flexed hand very relaxed after mobilizing the median nerve. She also mobilizes the lateral popliteal nerve to enable a patient to perform active dorsiflexion(although I have not been able to find this nerve in any of my anatomy books).

If anyone has taken Butler's continuing ed course I would appreciate any feedback & it's possible implications to the stroke population.

Thanks

I haven't read "Steps to Follow" and don't do much stroke rehab, but I've taken a few of the Neuro Orthopedic Institute courses & have read some of the neural mob. literature. From the little bit you've described I think it could be a reach to assume that all that's being done is mobilization a nerve.

p.s.
I've seen the common peroneal nerve called the external popliteal nerve, and the tibial nerve called the internal popliteal nerve. Perhaps she refers to the external popliteal/common peroneal, which is lateral to the tibial nerve.
