OH:
Current reimbursement rates are about 50-55% at best in ohio for private practice. Some of the biggest major ins. players Medical Mutual and Unitied Healthcare pay $50, and $40 a visit - no matter what you do or how good you are. Ins. companies own Ohio. You can still make it, but it is not a top choice. I know therpists in IN who work for the same nationwide company as their colleagues in OH, with similar practice patterns, and get $20/visit higher in IN vs OH.

Does FL have true Direct Access? e.g. CA has Direct Access but truly speaking, it is not as the patient does need to have seen an MD soemtime in the past for the same condition they are seen by a PT. Does any state have a true Direct Access?

You guys are making me feel happy I'm not in Ohio...
I'm in Idaho, where we have a great practice act with "true" direct access. Reimbursement for a 45 min session (ther ex, manual, etc.) is netting us about $75-80 per visit with the Medicare and PPO's of the world....and best of all...little managed care saturation.
I'm in more of a blue collar area with a higher population of Medicaid, etc. There are some places where Duffy's idaho of forgetting insurance altogether would fly as well.
Nice mountains, outdoor heaven, blue astroturf, Napoleon Dynamite, and of course...lotsa potatoes! Always room for more great clinicians!

Should be able to hitch a ride up here pretty easily with all the other Californians headed this way...bring a coat and your skis too!

Nicole, WC has been good to us so far, but it's not a huge portion of our caseload (~10-15%)
Looks like we're getting at least 90% of our billed charges. We are getting pre-authorization for future visits after eval, and State Insurance Fund (the only insurer we've dealt with so far) has actually been quite helpful.
I'll know more after we've been going a bit longer- we just began our 3rd month.

What about other states in the south or southeast. I'm thinking about relocating someplace warmer.

I am in central New York and things are not good. We average about 45-50$ per visit. There are also a lot of PTs around so it can be hard to get pts in the door.

Worst? Try 35 dollars from Oxford. Once I got 17 bucks from Aetna. NJ is the worst.
