Has anyone ever treated a Baker's cyst in the clinic(outpatient)? If so, what did you do? Thanks in advance. God bless you.

Saw one with a patient but the orthopedist told him that it was benign and not to do anything with it, unless it was bothersome and then they would drain it.

A Baker's cyst is a response to an intraarticular effusion, not generally a problem unto itself. Look for the cause of the effusion and treat that and the cyst will go away.

I agree with Tom. Once the culprit in the knee causing effusion is found and treated appropriately the Bakers cyst many times will reduce.

Howdy Nabor. I honestly have not had much luck reducing chronic popliteal swelling; however, I also have not found this to be a real troublesome problem other than cosmetic appearance. I agree with others here who feel you should treat the underlying pathology rather than the popliteal swelling itself. It kind of reminds me of those who treat thoracic trigger points or "tootsie roll signs" with only massage or soft tissue techniques/modalities instead of treating the thoracic pathology that is causing them in the first place.

Typically, the problem is OA of the knee, and often a meniscus tear. Yes, we can treat the underlying problem to some degree, but the cyst remains, but treating a cyst does not have a whole lot of support behind it. Alex: I do find your notation on the cervico-thoracic "knots" interesting. Yes, we often need to treat the underlying problem (actually usually cervical in nature, especially C6-7), but treating those knots is also paramount and should not be neglected.

I was just listening to Hundred Year Hall this weekend on my way over to Carmel with the family. I was lucky enough to live in the SF Bay area for a number of years and was able to catch around 50 shows with the Dead and about 10 or so Jerry shows. Great part of my life that I miss at times, but things do not always last in life...so while you are at it..."Let the Good Times Roll"...

The pic is titled "Birdsong", from the June 1995 Pittsburgh show....he looked like God that night. Yup, sure do miss that guy and all the joy he brought to so many people. Just missed out bidding on his master bathtub faucets last week on eBay auction.....his bidet was there too, which kind of creeped me out.
