Heres one for you all, that will a brow or two... Atlanta Falcons owner apparently decided to cash in on the name "Physical Therapy" as he opened up several clinics, alluding to be providers of physical therapy, when in reality all of these are manned by ATC or some type of trainers. Whats going on here?? Is Atlanta's PT organization doing anything about this. Im no legal expert, but this sounds like infringement to me. Heres the link: http://southflorida.bizjournals.com/southflorida/othercities/atlanta/stories/2008/01/07/story7.html?b=1199682000%5E1571041

What exactly is a physical trainer??? This business plan 'stinks' & seems to have insurance fraud all over it. They cannot get reimbursed for any of their work if not evaluated by a PT. Seems to me that the GA licensing dept for PT/AT should be notified. Thoughts?

Before everyone gets up in arms over this I think a little "research" needs to take place. The article was written for a business magazine so they may have used physical trainer when they meant therapist. I looked up their website (http://www.atlantafalconsptc.com) and under careers it lists Physical Therapists not ATC etc. If the individual that wrote the article interchanged trainer with therapist it once again points out what little the community at large understands about what we do. To me this is a much bigger issue than an wealthy man opening a physical therapy clinic that markets based on our obsession with sports - he appears to be a smart business man if this is run appropriately/legally. We do not need to jump to conclusions unless we know how the business is run.

Again with the marketing that lists physical therapy as a service. I find it especially offensive when it is separated from things like manual therapy? Is being a 'service' different than being a profession? Maybe I'm just feeling uptight, or my grass-roots are showing, but I feel compelled to comment to business owners when I see things like this: http://www.atlantafalconsptc.com/patients/index.html#patients-services
