Check out Andres and Wilk....
Rehabilitation of the Injured Athelete. Plenty of protocols for all kinds of proceedures!!!!!
But SJ is correct.......protocols vary tremendously depending on the surgeon. Check with yours first.

Jeff, as stated in the prior post, protocols vary with physicians. It would be helpful to look at the operative report. Sometimes the patient has a copy.
It would be useful to know the thickness of the tear as well as bicipital tendon involvement. If the sx was done purely arthroscopically, chances are the thickness was less than 50%.
With these facts, you should be able to plan your treatment more accurately. Generally, early ROM avoiding impingement-type pain while addressing scapular stability is the treatment initially (utilizing modalities prn). I also address proper sitting/sleeping positions with the patient (eg. when sitting, the UE should be resting in slight abduction to facilitate blood flow to the RTC).
FYI-an excellent article on the rotator cuff can be found in the journal of BioMechanics, Volume VII Number 3/March 2000 (pages 41-50).

Hey Jeff,
here's a website by Tulane Institue of Sports Medicine that offers a number of different protocols for shoulder and knee surguries. i use them as a basis for my treatment w/ a few modifications depending on the pt but as a whole they are great protocols. hope they help.
