Does anyone teach CE classes and work in a clinical setting. If so, I'd appreciate answers to any of the following: What made you want to start teaching? What do you teach? Do you work for a company? How many courses per year do you participate in? How is the pay? What do you like most about being an instructor? And least?

Hi JSPT: See answers below. I have been doing CEU's now for two years and in private practice for 8 of 15 of my career. Does anyone teach CE classes and work in a clinical setting. If so, I'd appreciate answers to any of the following: What made you want to start teaching? A desire to teach and share primarily. I found a lot of "holes" in certain things being taught, so to speak and found certain things that filled those holes. There were certain things that I do well, and it was actually a few of my staff members who encouraged me to start teaching. Also, a "teacher learns twice", so it reinforces my clinical work. What do you teach? Primarily orthopedic seminars geared towards non-surgical problems (shoulder, lumbopelvic, knee, headache)--these have a bias towards the autonomous practicioner or someone who would consider themself or would like to be a primary musculoskeletal manager. Do you work for a company? I created one myself to do it for. Here is the site. There's pro's and con's. Much work, fewer attendees, zero pay as a start up. In the long run, I thought it would be better if I were to do it for a 2nd career. Not sure if it was the right way to go just yet. How many courses per year do you participate in? Depends. Last year: 8, this year 10 and counting. How is the pay? None yet. It's a start up, the only perk is that it pays for itself and the loan I took to get it going. Intangibly, I've met some wonderful people, and it has led to potentially bigger things. If you sign on with a company, you will likely get paid, but you need to decide if it's worth your time for dollars trade. If you go your own way, be prepared to do a lot of work, cancel dates, not get paid or even lose money, give up nights and weekends without any guarantees. Sound good? What do you like most about being an instructor? And least? Most: Interacting with people in our profession. Have met some truly wonderful PTs, PTAs, OTs and learned things from them as I've gone along. (have also met a couple that should really leave the profession, moreso because of attitude/virtues). Least: No real dislikes. I've only had a few people that I needed to throw out of the seminar because of immature behavior. It's not fun, but I demand a professional behavior from professional, and those people will trash you anyway. They usually think they know it all or are just there for the CEUs with a pal to goof off or take a day off. If you want to talk personally, give me a call. You can get my number on our site here. Best, Michael

Thank you for taking the time to answer, Michael. Your replies were exactly the information I was looking for. The website looks pretty good as well. I have a few suggestions to make navigating it a bit easier, if you'd like to PM me. Again, Thanks.

What made you want to start teaching? I saw there was a need for providing additional education training in the field of infant and pediatric massage. What do you teach? Infant, children's & pediatric massage therapy for healthy children, children with special healthcare needs and children in hospice/palliative care. Do you work for a company? I founded my own organization - Liddle Kidz Foundation How many courses per year do you participate in? It varies. This year it will be close to 30 courses throughout the US and Canada. How is the pay? It varies. My organization offers scholarships for individuals, and agencies, which will greatly benefit from the education although they may not have the funds available to attend the course. What do you like most about being an instructor? I love meeting all of the different people who attend the courses and learning how they intend to use the training. And least?
