Wondering if anyone has a word of caution against this. If the position is still available after I graduate, I would seriously consider moving to Laredo, if only for a year or two until my debt is payed back and I have money saved for a nice down payment on a home. Comments?

sometimes smaller, rural locations need to offer higher salaries to attract PT's.  This seems like a pretty high salary range.  So, in an interview you may want to ask questions (you may obviously have to dance around questions that are too direct - b/c you may want the job) regarding billing and scheduling.  I am thinking along the lines of how many patients you will be seeing.  Sometimes places that can offer salaries like this may be practicing billing methods that border on unethical/illegal.  You just don't want to get caught in that type of situation.

You might want to find out if this is a POPTs situation as well. I agree with Kaden's interview questions too.

Thank you both very much for your helpful comments. Kaden, you brought up something I hadn't thought about yet.. I certainly don't want to get caught up in an illegal situation. Medrec Inc has been around for over 30 years from what I've researched, and seem to be very legit. This is an outpatient ortho setting, so as Jess said, I'm guessing there's a possibility it's a physician owned clinic. I'm sorry if I seem to be going against everything I know and have been taught, but this opportunity might be hard to pass up just over it being a POPTS.. especially if I'm only talking about 1-2 years. But I guess I have a lot of questions to ask them if I get to that point, so thanks for sparking some!

Interview for the job (if nothing just for the experience).  Ask the questions that need to be asked related to productivity expectations, use of support staff, cont ed allowance, benefit info, loan repayment schedule if you decide to leave the job early, etc.  If it seems like they offer what you want then go for it.  If it seems too good to be true then look elsewhere.

Don't say you are sorry if you are going against everything that you know or have been taught - who's to say what you have been taught is correct with regardst o POPTS?

I'm a half empty type so looks to me like this is a recruiter.  My experiences with them are not that great.  It even says in that add that this particular one may not be available but they have others.  To me it looks like the old bait and switch tactic.  Just make up a fake email address, because they won't stop emailing you, and don't give them your phone number.
Good luck.

The sad part is that all of us (me included), feel this is an excessive salary. It really should be the norm.

Its more enticing to a recent graduate but not to those who are already in the field. Bait and trap.

I don't think it's saying that this one may not be available. It says: "The career position you see here on Career Builder is just one opportunity. If it’s not exactly what you’re looking for, that’s OK. Most of the career positions that we fill never make it to the website because we already have a candidate in mind!" To me, that means there are other opporunities in the event that you're looking for something different. Maybe I'm reading it wrong.. but that's what I got from it. ??

Sounds like a POPTS or chiro owned clinic....they would have the resources to pay this huge salary plus student loan repayment.... First of all, the student loan repayment i am sure is partial repayment...Second, if you sign on at this amount they would almost definetely have you lock in for a 5 year contract with no way to break it without reimbursing the clinic back... I had a chiro who started P.T. services and wanted a P.T. to oversee it...I was offered $100,000/yr to be that person...I had to sign a 5 year contract with details such as no competes in it and reimbursement back with early termination of the contract...BEWARE!!

I say that because a higher salary being offered to a graduate who already is in debt with school, is more attractive to them to take. Who doesn't want to break into the field making a top notch salary to start off with? Although, I haven't heard of salaries being offered that high, those that did told me that they basically worked like a mule in a ford factory and didn't stay long. Find out the facts about the job and what it entails. KIDPT23 basically summed it up.

Like I said earlier look into the position if you are interested, ask the right questions (essentially put them on the spot regarding their operations), and then post here if you have further questions.  Just because the salary is not the norm does not mean it is a place you should not consider working although most likely it is.

Heck I was recently offered $75/hour for a position that required 10 hours week.  sounded great, I could set my own hours and could essentially make 750/week "on the side"  --  looked into it further thinking something was fishy with it but I thought I should explore it anyway as $750/week sounded nice for some PRN work.  Anyway found out it was at a maximum security prison.......oh well maybe next time
