Status: offline 		has anybody used a "sand-pit" for therapy, I think it would be great for plyometric and proprioceptive injuries and good marketing tool, "another niche"; let me know on possible cost and any thoughts

Status: offline 		i used to have one. Real good for plantas fasciitis as well! It was homemade, we put up a would fram lined it with heavy plastic, staple gun foam an vinyl to inside and top side, bought sand from home depot, we had like a 6 by 8 pit about 5 inches deep in all and it eventually cost like 350. It was just another thing to have, a lot of vacuuming, but not so much a niche of any means...

Status: offline 		this is when i lived in northern VA...funny enough, almost no one down here has plantar fasciitis, I wonder why, maybe all the beach walking, or maybe all the comfortable footwear is not as good as flip flops and sandals?

Status: offline 		FLA almost set me off on a rant since he mentioned a pet theory of mine. I think you are exactly right, all the barefoot and open shoes do largely prevent plantar fasciitis.

The sand pit idea is good, but I don't think it will do much as a marketing idea.

Status: offline 		I do much better when i wear mocassins all day, vs. "supportive" shoes. Less foot, knee, hip and back pain at the end of the day. :)

Status: offline 		In northern Minnesota we have a significant lack of sandy beaches. So to compensate we have our plantarfascitis patients walk in the snow. It a wonderful modality because we get 2 for the price of one. The proprioceptive graininess of the crystal snow and ice massage simultaneously. And patients can do it at home. Another advantage to living in God's country.

Status: offline 		I live near a lot of marshes. What about the idea of walking through the thick mud? Lots of proprio/balance with the strength component of getting each LE out of the mud and I'm sure some cardio/endurance!

Status: offline 		LOL Kid... and that sound that is heard as you pull your feet out of the mud. There's also mudsliding for the 3-4" deep mud... that's fun too. Better than slip and slide in a way. Cleaning up in someone else's shower makes it an all around excellent experience. (Not that I know... ;) )
